The HERTEL C.40N.2620 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and composite materials. It features a 1-1/32 inch (1.0313 inch decimal) diameter with a 118-degree split or conventional point angle, ground from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish. The shortened overall length of 6-5/8 inches compared to jobber-length bits gives it greater rigidity and reduced deflection in drill press, CNC, and turret lathe applications. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and general fabricators use this bit where stub-length stability is needed for accurate hole location and reduced chatter.
This drill bit is suited for production machining and shop floor applications where a shorter, stiffer bit is preferred over standard jobber-length tooling. The bright uncoated finish makes it appropriate for use in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and general shop materials. It cuts right-hand with a standard 118-degree point, making it compatible with conventional drill press setups, manual mills, and CNC turning centers running standard drilling cycles. The 4-1/4 inch flute length provides adequate chip evacuation for through-holes in typical workpiece thicknesses.
Designed as a general-purpose screw machine length drill bit suitable for use in drill presses, manual mills, CNC machining centers, and turret lathes accepting large-diameter straight or taper-shank tooling in the 0.6000 inch and above size range.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician using the appropriate chuck or collet system rated for the bit diameter. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Verify the chuck or collet is clean and free of debris to prevent runout. Follow applicable shop safety practices and machine manufacturer guidelines for large-diameter drill bit speeds and feeds.
