The HERTEL C.402.1080 is a high speed steel (HSS) jobber-length drill bit ground to a 10.80 mm (0.4252 inch) diameter with a standard 118-degree point angle. An oxide coating reduces friction and helps resist heat buildup during drilling. The two-flute, right-hand spiral flute geometry provides efficient chip evacuation in a wide range of metal-cutting applications. Overall length is 140.00 mm (5.5118 inches) with a flute length of 103.00 mm (4.0551 inches). The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard three-jaw drill chucks without additional toolholding adapters. This bit is sized in the 0.4000 to 0.5000 inch decimal range, making it a general-purpose choice for machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators.
The C.402.1080 is suited for drilling steel and cast iron in general-purpose machining and maintenance environments. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in structural steel, mild steel plate, and gray cast iron components. The jobber-length format provides a balance of rigidity and reach appropriate for bench drill presses, CNC machining centers, and handheld drill motors. Coolant-through capability is not featured on this bit, so flood or mist coolant applied externally at the cutting zone is recommended for sustained production drilling cycles.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber drill bit for use in standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting straight-cylindrical shanks, suited for steel and cast iron workpieces.
Installation is performed by machinists, maintenance mechanics, or fabricators using a drill press, machining center, or handheld drill motor. Secure the straight shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before beginning a cut. Power down and de-energize the machine before changing or inspecting the bit. Apply external cutting fluid or mist coolant when drilling in production volumes to manage heat and extend tool life.
