The HERTEL C.402.0640 is a high speed steel jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and plastic. It features a 118-degree standard point angle for positive starting and consistent hole geometry across a wide range of workpiece materials. The bit measures 6.40 mm (0.2520 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 105 mm and a flute length of 73 mm. An oxide coating reduces friction at the cutting edge and provides modest protection against heat buildup during operation. With a straight-cylindrical shank and right-hand spiral flute, this bit seats securely in standard three-jaw chucks and keyless drill chucks used on benchtop drill presses and handheld power drills.
This drill bit is suited for light to medium-duty production drilling and maintenance applications across manufacturing, fabrication, and general trade work. Its 6.40 mm diameter falls within the 6.00 mm to 7.00 mm range, making it appropriate when a fractional or letter size does not land on the required decimal equivalent. Machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians commonly reach for general-purpose jobber bits in this size class for clearance holes, pilot holes, and through-hole operations on ferrous and non-ferrous stock.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber drill bit for use in standard drill presses, CNC drilling machines, and handheld power drills equipped with chucks sized to accept a straight-cylindrical shank in the 6.00 mm to 7.00 mm diameter range.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify concentricity before starting the spindle. Always power down the machine and confirm the spindle has stopped completely before changing bits or clearing chips. Do not exceed the recommended spindle speed for the workpiece material and bit diameter, and use cutting fluid as appropriate for the material being drilled.
