The HERTEL 91197434 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it handles tough ferrous and exotic alloy workpieces where standard HSS tooling falls short. The cutter measures 2 inches in diameter with an 8-flute fine-pitch configuration, producing a smoother surface finish than coarse-pitch roughers while still clearing chips efficiently. Overall length is 6.75 inches with a 3-inch length of cut. It is center-cutting and runs right-hand cut with right-hand flute direction, making it compatible with conventional vertical and horizontal milling setups.
This end mill is suited for production and job-shop environments where high-feed roughing passes are required on steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar hard materials. The 2-inch shank diameter matches the cutter diameter, making it a straight-shank tool intended for use in collet chucks, end mill holders, or similar rigid toolholding systems. Machinists, toolroom operators, and CNC programmers working in metalworking, die-and-mold, and general machining applications will find this tool appropriate for hogging stock in a single-end application.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit roughing end mill for standard 2-inch straight-shank end mill holders and collet systems used in vertical mills, horizontal mills, and CNC machining centers.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom professional. Ensure the milling machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder and torque the set screws or collet nut per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before taking the first cut, as excessive runout on a large-diameter rougher accelerates tool wear and degrades surface finish.
