The HERTEL 91197368 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat and wear resistance suited to harder workpiece materials where standard HSS tooling falls short. The 1/2 inch cutting diameter pairs with a 1/2 inch length of cut and a 2.5 inch overall length. Four right-hand flutes with a fine pitch geometry break chips efficiently during roughing passes, reducing cutting forces and heat buildup at the tool-workpiece interface. The bright, uncoated finish is compatible with a wide range of cutting fluids. This tool is installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills.
This roughing end mill is suited for roughing passes on ferrous metals, stainless steels, and heat-resistant alloys in both job shop and production environments. Center-cutting capability allows plunge entry without a pilot hole, making it practical for pocketing and slotting operations. The right-hand flute direction and right-hand cutting direction are standard for conventional milling setups. At 0.504 pounds, the tool weight is consistent with standard 1/2 inch cobalt end mill stock.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard 1/2 inch shank roughing end mills used in ER collet chucks, Weldon-style holders, and milling machine spindles accepting 1/2 inch tooling.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per applicable safety procedures. Ensure the collet or tool holder is clean and free of chips before seating the shank. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping to confirm proper seating. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling supplier recommendations for speeds and feeds appropriate to the workpiece material.
