The HERTEL 91197236 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat and wear resistance suited to tough ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. The 5-flute geometry produces a wave-pattern cutting edge that breaks up chips and reduces chatter during heavy hogging cuts. With a 1 inch cutting diameter, a 6 inch length of cut, and an 8.5 inch overall length, this tool handles deep-reach roughing passes where shorter tooling cannot reach. The bright, uncoated finish is standard for cobalt tooling used in a wide range of shop applications. Licensed machinists and tooling specialists are the primary users.
This end mill is suited for roughing operations on machining centers, knee mills, and manual or CNC vertical mills. Its 1 inch shank diameter seats directly in standard R8, CAT, BT, or HSK toolholders of the appropriate bore. The extended 6 inch length of cut makes it well matched to deep-pocket milling, slotting in thick plate, and profiling tall workpiece features where a standard-length end mill would bottom out in the holder before reaching depth. Right-hand cutting direction and right-hand flute spiral are standard for conventional spindle rotation.
Designed as a standard-geometry roughing end mill for use in any milling machine or machining center that accepts a 1 inch straight shank toolholder. No specific OEM machine or system compatibility was stated in the product data.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine control in a safe, locked-out state per OSHA lockout/tagout requirements. Use a calibrated torque wrench and manufacturer-specified drawbar or collet nut torque when seating the shank — do not overtighten by feel alone. Confirm tool runout with a dial indicator after tightening; excessive runout on a roughing end mill accelerates flute chipping and shortens tool life. End mills are not center-cutting — do not plunge axially into solid material; ramp or helical entry is required for pocket starts.
