The HERTEL 91196683 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a TiCN coating, it delivers hardness and heat resistance suitable for machining tough ferrous metals and alloys. The 1-inch diameter cutting head features 5 flutes configured for right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction. With a 4-inch length of cut and a 6.5-inch overall length, this tool handles deep-reach milling passes on vertical mills, horizontal mills, and CNC machining centers. It is not center-cutting, so plunge milling is not an intended use. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in job shops, maintenance, and production environments are the primary users.
This roughing end mill suits metal removal operations in ferrous and exotic alloy workpieces where chip clearance and thermal performance are critical. The M42 cobalt substrate tolerates elevated cutting temperatures better than standard M2 HSS, making it appropriate for interrupted cuts and harder work materials. The 1-inch shank diameter matches the 1-inch mill diameter for a direct collet or end mill holder setup. Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully de-energized and locked out per applicable machine safety procedures. Seat the 1-inch shank fully into a matched end mill holder or collet and torque the retention hardware according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut. Inspect the cutting edges and coating condition prior to each use; damaged or chipped flutes should not be run.
