The HERTEL 91192880 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, this tool handles interrupted cuts and tough alloys that would accelerate wear on standard HSS tooling. It features 4 right-hand flutes with a coarse pitch geometry that breaks chips into smaller segments, reducing heat buildup and cutting forces. The 1/2-inch diameter with a matching 1/2-inch shank fits standard milling chucks and collets without adapters. Machinists, tool and die shops, and maintenance machining operations are the primary users.
This end mill is suited for roughing passes on ferrous metals, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys where stock removal rate matters more than surface finish. The coarse-pitch flute design shears material in shorter chip segments, keeping the flutes clear in both conventional and climb milling. With a 2-inch length of cut and 4-inch overall length, it handles medium-depth pockets and shoulder milling on knee mills and CNC machining centers alike. The center-cutting geometry allows plunge entry without a pre-drilled hole when required.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement roughing end mill for any milling setup accepting a 1/2-inch shank, including knee mills, bed mills, and CNC vertical machining centers with standard ER, R8, or end mill holder tooling systems.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked before loading or unloading the tool. Seat the shank to the full recommended depth in the holder and torque the drawbar or set screws to the machine manufacturer specification. Inspect the collet or holder for runout before beginning a roughing pass, as excessive runout accelerates flute wear on cobalt tooling.
