The HERTEL 91192740 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers strong wear resistance and heat tolerance during heavy roughing cuts. The coarse pitch, 5-flute geometry breaks chips efficiently and reduces cutting forces, making it well suited for hogging stock on ferrous and stainless materials. It measures 1 inch in diameter with a 6-inch length of cut and an 8.5-inch overall length. A licensed machinist or tool-and-die professional is the typical installer and operator for this type of end mill.
This roughing end mill is used in vertical and horizontal milling machines, machining centers, and knee mills where bulk material removal is the priority. The 1-inch shank diameter fits standard R8, CAT, BT, and side-lock toolholders commonly found in job shops and production environments. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction make it compatible with conventional spindle-direction setups. The TiN coating helps extend tool life when running at elevated feeds and speeds in carbon steel, alloy steel, and tool steel applications.
Designed as a standard 1-inch shank single-end roughing end mill suitable for use in milling machines and machining centers equipped with toolholders accepting a 1-inch straight shank.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with milling machine setup and cutting tool safety. Secure the shank fully in a clean, undamaged toolholder and verify runout before cutting. Always confirm spindle speed and feed rate settings are appropriate for the workpiece material and machine capability before engaging the cut. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut for roughing passes, and inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping between operations.
