The HERTEL 89324313 is a taper shank drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling operations in metal fabrication, machining, and industrial maintenance applications. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, this bit measures 2-23/32 inches (2.7188 inches) in diameter and features a 5 Morse taper shank for secure, high-torque mounting in compatible spindles and drill presses. The 118-degree point angle suits general-purpose drilling in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. With a flute length of 12-3/4 inches and an overall length of 20-3/8 inches, this bit handles deep-hole applications where reach and chip evacuation matter. It is installed and used by machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance mechanics working with large-capacity drilling equipment.
This drill bit is suited for general-purpose drilling operations in industrial and manufacturing environments. Typical applications include structural steel fabrication, heavy equipment repair, and mold-and-die work where large-diameter through-holes are required. The 5 Morse taper shank mounts directly into drill press spindles, radial arm drills, and milling machine quills rated for 5MT tooling. Its oxide finish provides light corrosion resistance during storage and use with cutting fluids. This is a single-piece unit appropriate for production or maintenance shops that require repeatable, accurate large-diameter holes.
Designed for use in drill presses, radial arm drills, and milling machine quills equipped with a No. 5 Morse taper spindle socket.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Before mounting or removing the bit, ensure the machine is fully powered down and the spindle has come to a complete stop. The taper shank should be cleaned and inspected for burrs or debris before seating it into the spindle socket; a proper drift and a mallet are the correct tools for seating and ejecting Morse taper tooling. Never exceed the machine spindle speed rating for the bit diameter, and use an appropriate cutting fluid for the material being drilled to manage heat and extend tool life.
