The HERTEL 89324305 is a taper shank drill bit engineered for large-diameter drilling in metal, alloy, and similar materials. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, it delivers reliable performance in general-purpose production and maintenance drilling applications. The bit measures 2.625 inches in diameter with a 118-degree point angle that provides a conventional cutting geometry suited to a wide range of work materials. Overall length is 19.5 inches, with a flute length of 11.875 inches. This bit is installed by machinists and maintenance technicians working with drill presses, radial arm drills, and other machine tools equipped with a No. 5 Morse taper spindle.
This drill bit is sized for heavy-duty drilling tasks that exceed the capacity of straight-shank and smaller taper-shank tooling. The 5MT shank seats directly into compatible machine spindles, eliminating the need for a chuck and providing a rigid, concentric connection. Typical applications include structural fabrication shops, industrial maintenance facilities, and job shops drilling large through-holes or stepped bores in ferrous and non-ferrous stock. The 118-degree conventional point is well suited to general-purpose drilling across a broad range of materials without requiring specialized grinding.
Designed for machine tools with a No. 5 Morse taper (5MT) spindle socket, including drill presses, radial arm drills, and milling machines configured for taper-shank tooling.
Installation requires a machine spindle or sleeve with a No. 5 Morse taper bore. Ensure the spindle and taper shank are clean and free of chips or oil before seating to achieve proper contact and concentricity. Always power down and lock out the machine before inserting or removing the bit. A drift pin and mallet are the standard tools for ejecting the bit from the spindle; never use the spindle feed mechanism to force the taper loose.
