The HERTEL 89323893 is a taper shank drill bit designed for heavy-duty hole-making in metal fabrication, machining, and industrial maintenance applications. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, it measures 1-5/16 inches (1.3125 inches) in diameter and features a 118-degree point angle suited for general-purpose drilling in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 4MT (Morse Taper No. 4) shank seats directly into compatible taper-socket spindles and drill press quills, providing rigid, self-holding alignment without a separate chuck. Machinists and maintenance technicians working with large-format drill presses or lathes with taper bores are the primary installers of this tool.
This bit is intended for general-purpose drilling operations where a large-diameter hole is required in a single pass or as a finish step after piloting. The 8-5/8-inch flute length provides ample chip clearance during deep-hole drilling, and the 14-1/4-inch overall length accommodates setups where extended reach is needed. It is appropriate for use in industrial job shops, manufacturing facilities, and maintenance departments running equipment with 4MT-compatible spindles.
Designed for use with drill presses, lathes, and milling machines equipped with a No. 4 Morse Taper (4MT) spindle socket. Verify spindle taper designation before installation.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with taper-shank tooling. Power down and lock out the machine at the main disconnect before seating or removing the bit from the spindle. Insert the taper shank fully into the spindle socket and ensure proper seating by hand before applying power. Use a proper drift and soft mallet to eject the bit from the socket — never apply lateral force to the flutes or shank.
