The HERTEL 89323810 is a taper shank drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling in metal, cast iron, and similar materials. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, it features a 118-degree split point angle suited for general-purpose drilling applications. The bit measures 1.625 inches in diameter with a 10-inch flute length and a 17-inch overall length. The No. 5 Morse taper shank seats directly into compatible taper-socket spindles on drill presses, lathes, and machining centers, eliminating the need for a separate chuck. This bit is installed and used by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and industrial maintenance technicians.
This drill bit is intended for general-purpose hole-making in ferrous and non-ferrous metals on large-capacity drill presses, radial arm drills, lathes, and similar machine tools equipped with a No. 5 Morse taper socket. The 1.625-inch diameter is a common production size for creating large-diameter through-holes and stepped bores in industrial and maintenance environments. The oxide finish provides basic corrosion resistance and reduces friction during cutting.
Designed for use in machine tool spindles, drill press quills, and lathe tailstocks fitted with a No. 5 Morse taper socket.
Installation is performed by machinists or industrial maintenance technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing the taper shank. Clean both the shank and the socket bore thoroughly before insertion to ensure full contact and prevent slippage under load. Use a proper drift key and drift slot to remove the bit from the spindle — never strike the bit directly.
