The HERTEL 89323760 is a taper shank twist drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and similar materials. It features a 27/64-inch diameter cutting edge, a No. 1 Morse Taper (1MT) shank for secure seating in compatible spindles and tailstocks, and a standard 118-degree point angle suited for a wide range of workpiece materials. The high-speed steel (HSS) construction with an oxide finish provides adequate wear resistance and heat tolerance for production and maintenance drilling tasks. At 7.25 inches overall length with a 3.875-inch flute length, it handles moderate-depth holes with good chip evacuation. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
This bit is intended for use in drill presses, lathes, and milling machines equipped with a No. 1 Morse Taper socket. It is well suited for general-purpose metal removal in job shop, maintenance, and light manufacturing environments. The 27/64-inch diameter is commonly used for clearance holes, pre-tap drilling, and close-tolerance through-holes in ferrous and non-ferrous metals as well as plastics. It is sold as a single unit and is appropriate for both recurring production runs and one-off repair tasks.
Designed for use in any machine spindle or tailstock with a No. 1 Morse Taper (1MT) socket, including standard drill presses, engine lathes, and milling machines configured with 1MT tooling.
Installation requires a clean, burr-free 1MT socket; use a proper drift key to seat and remove the taper shank — never strike the bit directly. Power down and lock out the machine before inserting or removing the bit. Inspect the taper shank and socket for wear or damage prior to each use, as a poor fit will cause runout and premature tool failure. Consult the machine manufacturer's recommended spindle speeds for the workpiece material and drill diameter before cutting.
