The HERTEL 89323620 is a taper shank drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling in metal, steel, and similar materials. It carries a 1-23/64 inch (1.3594 inch decimal) cutting diameter and mounts via a 4MT (Morse Taper 4) shank, making it compatible with large floor-standing drill presses and milling machines equipped with a matching taper socket. The drill point is ground to a 118-degree angle, a general-purpose geometry suited to a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. The bit is manufactured from high-speed steel with an oxide finish that provides a degree of corrosion resistance and reduces friction during cutting. Machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople are the primary users of tooling in this size and shank class.
This drill bit is intended for general-purpose production and maintenance drilling where a large-diameter hole must be produced in a single pass or as a finish step following a pilot bore. The 4MT shank seats directly into a compatible spindle taper without a separate chuck, which increases rigidity and concentricity at larger diameters. With an 8-7/8 inch flute length and a 14-1/2 inch overall length, this bit accommodates deep-hole applications common in fabrication shops, maintenance facilities, and industrial machine shops. It is sold individually.
Designed for use in drill presses, milling machines, and lathes fitted with a 4MT (Morse Taper 4) spindle socket. No additional chuck or adapter is required when the machine spindle matches the 4MT taper designation.
Installation and removal of taper shank tooling should be performed only with the machine fully powered down and the spindle at a complete stop. Seat the taper shank firmly into the spindle socket by hand before engaging the draw bar or drift, ensuring the tang aligns correctly with the spindle slot. Use a proper drift and mallet to remove the bit; never strike the flutes or the drill body directly. Follow the machine manufacturer guidelines and applicable workplace safety standards when operating large-diameter drill tooling.
