The HERTEL 89323570 is a taper shank drill bit designed for drilling large-diameter holes in metal, cast iron, and similar materials. It carries a 1-33/64 inch (1.5156 inch decimal) cutting diameter and mounts via a No. 4 Morse taper shank, which seats directly into compatible taper-socket spindles on drill presses, lathes, and radial arm drills. The 118-degree split or standard point geometry suits general-purpose production and maintenance drilling. An oxide finish provides light corrosion resistance and reduces friction during cutting. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and industrial maintenance technicians are the typical installers for this size class of bit.
This bit is suited for general-purpose hole making in ferrous and non-ferrous stock where a No. 4 Morse taper drive is available. The 9-3/8 inch flute length supports deep-hole applications and allows adequate chip evacuation in through-hole operations. The 15 inch overall length accommodates setups where extended reach is required on drill press or lathe spindle configurations. High-speed steel construction holds up under moderate cutting speeds without requiring carbide tooling costs.
Designed for use in drill presses, lathes, and radial arm drills equipped with a No. 4 Morse taper spindle socket. No drill chuck adapter is required for direct taper-socket mounting.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with Morse taper tooling. Before mounting, clean both the taper shank and the spindle socket thoroughly to ensure full seating contact and prevent runout. Secure the shank fully by hand-pressing it into the socket with a firm push or light mallet tap; never drive with excessive force. To remove, use a drift key through the spindle slot and follow standard machine shop safety practices including de-energizing the machine before any tooling change.
