The HERTEL 89323521 is a taper shank drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and similar materials. It uses a No. 2 Morse taper (2MT) shank for secure, self-holding engagement in compatible drill press spindles, lathes, and milling machine quills. The cutting tip is ground to a 118-degree point angle, a standard geometry suited to a wide range of workpiece materials. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with an oxide finish, the bit provides basic lubricity and surface protection during cutting. The decimal diameter of 0.5313 inches ensures accurate hole sizing for close-tolerance applications.
This drill bit is used in machine shop, fabrication, and maintenance environments where a taper shank drive is preferred over a straight shank. The 4.625-inch flute length accommodates deeper holes, while the 8.5-inch overall length suits standard drill press and lathe setups. It is a general-purpose tool appropriate for machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians working with drill presses, turret lathes, and similar machine tools that accept a No. 2 Morse taper.
Designed for use in machine tool spindles, drill presses, lathes, and milling machines equipped with a No. 2 Morse taper socket.
Installation requires a No. 2 Morse taper socket or adapter and a standard drift key for removal. De-energize and lock out the machine before installing or removing the bit. Ensure the taper surfaces are clean and free of chips or burrs before seating to prevent chatter and premature wear. Taper shank bits should be driven firmly into the socket using the tang engagement — never force with excessive hammer impact.
