The HERTEL 89321426 is a screw machine length drill bit ground from high-speed steel and designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and similar materials. Screw machine length bits are shorter than jobber-length bits, which increases rigidity and reduces deflection in production drilling, CNC setups, and drill press work. This bit measures 3-1/16 inches overall with a 1-3/4 inch flute length, runs a standard 118-degree split-style point, and cuts in a right-hand direction. The bright, uncoated finish is suitable for use with cutting fluids and works across a broad range of workpiece materials.
This bit is a fit for machine shops, production floors, and maintenance applications where a compact, rigid cutting tool is preferred over a standard jobber-length drill. The 23/64 inch diameter (0.3594 inch decimal equivalent) falls in the 0.3500 to 0.4000 inch size range and is commonly used for through-hole drilling, clearance holes, and pre-tap operations in ferrous and non-ferrous stock. It is appropriate for use in manual drill presses, turret lathes, and CNC machining centers.
Designed as a general-purpose screw machine length drill bit suitable for use in any standard drill chuck or collet system accepting a 23/64 inch shank diameter.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the bit fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify spindle speed is appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter. Always use appropriate cutting fluid to extend tool life and reduce heat buildup. Wear proper eye protection when drilling.
