The HERTEL 89321277 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-volume drilling operations where a shorter, more rigid tool profile is required. Sized at 25/32 inches (0.7813 inches decimal), it features a 118-degree split point angle suited for general-purpose drilling into metal, wood, and plastics. The bit is manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish. Its overall length of 5.125 inches and flute length of 3.25 inches make it well suited for drill press, screw machine, and CNC lathe applications where tool clearance is limited. Right-hand cut geometry provides standard clockwise drilling action compatible with conventional spindle setups.
This drill bit is intended for general-purpose production drilling environments, including metal fabrication shops, machine shops, and maintenance operations. The screw machine length format — shorter than jobber length — reduces deflection and increases rigidity when drilling through ferrous and non-ferrous metals, mild steel, aluminum, and similar materials. It is a direct fit for screw machines, turret lathes, and drill presses where stub-length tooling is the standard. A single unit is included per package, making it a practical replacement or supplemental addition to an existing bit set.
Designed as a general-purpose screw machine length drill bit compatible with drill presses, turret lathes, screw machines, and CNC setups that accept standard straight-shank stub-length tooling in the 0.6000 inch and larger diameter range.
This bit should be installed and secured in the appropriate chuck or collet by a qualified machinist or tool operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Verify that the chuck or collet size is rated for the 25/32 inch shank diameter before seating the bit. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain cut quality.
