The HERTEL 89320907 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed steel drilling in general purpose applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it features a 118-degree standard point angle suited for drilling into a wide range of common materials including mild steel, aluminum, wood, and plastics. The screw machine length format provides a shorter, stiffer profile compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection and improving hole accuracy in confined spaces or on drill presses. The straight shank and regular spiral flute design make it compatible with standard chucks and drilling equipment used in trade and production environments.
This bit is sized at wire gauge No. 44 (0.0860 inches decimal equivalent) with a 0.75-inch flute length and a 1.75-inch overall length. Its compact form is well suited for sheet metal work, light fabrication, HVAC equipment assembly, electrical panel fabrication, and general maintenance drilling tasks where a shorter bit length improves rigidity and control. Machinists, sheet metal workers, HVAC technicians, and electricians commonly reach for screw machine length bits when working in tight clearances or when drilling pilot holes in thin-gauge materials.
Designed as a general purpose screw machine length drill bit for use with standard straight-shank drill chucks on benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and production drilling equipment.
Install and remove this bit only when the drill or drill press is fully powered down and the chuck is stationary. Secure the straight shank firmly in the chuck before operation to prevent slipping or bit damage. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling ferrous metals to extend bit life. Replace the bit promptly if tip wear or deflection is observed, as worn HSS bits increase the risk of workpiece damage and inaccurate hole placement.
