The HERTEL 8851934 is a WNMG332BH HP225CR grade cermet turning insert designed for precision lathe and turning center operations. It features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) TiN coating over a cermet substrate, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and light interrupted cuts. The insert has a neutral hand orientation, a positive rake angle of 15 degrees, and a corner radius of 0.0312 inches (1/32 inch). The inscribed circle measures 0.375 inches (3/8 inch) and the insert thickness is 0.1875 inches (3/16 inch). Machinists and CNC lathe operators install this insert in compatible WNMG-style toolholders for finishing and semi-finishing operations on steel and hardened materials.
This insert is suited for turning operations on ferrous metals, including medium-carbon and alloy steels, where a fine surface finish and tight dimensional tolerances are required. The G chip breaker geometry and 15-degree positive rake angle help control chip flow and reduce cutting forces during light-to-moderate depth-of-pass operations. It is commonly used in production turning environments on CNC lathes and manual engine lathes equipped with clamp-and-pin style WNMG toolholders. The 80-degree trigon (W) shape provides two usable cutting edges per insert.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for WNMG332-style insert pockets using clamp-and-pin holding systems. Compatible toolholders must accept a WNMG insert style with a 0.15-inch hole diameter, 0.375-inch inscribed circle, and clearance code N with tolerance code M.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the pocket before engaging the clamp and pin; an improperly seated insert can fracture under cutting load. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or damage before installing a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque recommendations for the clamp screw.
