The HERTEL 8850567 is a TPG-style ceramic turning insert designed for high-speed, high-temperature machining applications on CNC and manual lathes. Manufactured in the HP610CA ceramic grade with a PVD-applied TiN coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability when cutting hardened steels, cast irons, and similar difficult materials. The neutral hand orientation suits a wide range of turning and facing operations. At 0.433 inches in length with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, it fits standard TPG toolholders and provides consistent, repeatable edge geometry across the cutting cycle. Installation is performed by qualified machinists and toolroom technicians.
This insert is suited for turning operations on CNC turning centers and conventional lathes where ceramic-grade tooling is required. The 60-degree triangular shape provides three usable cutting edges per insert, making it a practical choice for high-production environments cutting hardened or abrasive workpiece materials. The positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces, and the clamp-style holding method ensures rigid seating in compatible TPG toolholders. Typical applications include finish and semi-finish turning of hardened ferrous materials where carbide tooling reaches its thermal limits.
Designed for use in standard TPG-style clamp toolholders accepting a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, 1/8-inch thick triangular insert with a TPG221 insert size code and P clearance, G tolerance designation.
Seating and indexing of turning inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for debris or damage before seating the insert. Ceramic inserts are brittle and should not be used for interrupted cuts or applications with heavy vibration unless the grade is rated for such conditions. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications and verify insert seating before resuming cutting operations.
