The HERTEL 8849646 is a ceramic turning insert in the DNGA style, grade HP610CA, designed for precision turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. The insert features a TiN coating applied via PVD process, a 55-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation, and a corner radius of 0.0312 inches (1/32 inch). With an inscribed circle of 0.5 inches and an insert thickness of 0.1875 inches, this insert is built for negative rake cutting with a chip breaker designation of A. It is held in place by clamp and pin, making it compatible with standard DNGA-style toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators typically install and index this insert during turning operations on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces.
This insert is suited for turning applications where ceramic cutting materials offer advantages in high-speed or high-temperature cutting environments. The DNGA432 format is a widely used insert geometry in production turning, appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes. The neutral hand orientation allows use in toolholders designed for straight or axial turning without a directional bias. This insert is sold individually per package with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for DNGA-style toolholders accepting a 432 insert size with clamp and pin holding method.
Indexable turning inserts should only be installed or indexed with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamp securely without overtightening. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert, as contamination can cause insert rocking and premature failure. Handle ceramic inserts carefully to avoid chipping the cutting edges prior to use.
