The HERTEL 88245444 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating, it delivers added hardness and heat resistance during heavy cuts. The coarse-pitch, 4-flute geometry breaks chips efficiently and reduces cutting forces, making it well suited to roughing passes on steel, cast iron, and other ferrous materials. The mill diameter is 0.75 inches with a 1.625-inch length of cut and a 3.875-inch overall length. Center-cutting capability allows plunge entry when the application requires it. Installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals, this end mill fits standard 3/4-inch collet or end mill holders.
This roughing end mill is intended for use in vertical machining centers, knee mills, and manual or CNC milling machines where stock removal speed is the priority over surface finish. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional and climb milling setups. The regular-length profile keeps the tool stiff and minimizes deflection during heavier radial engagement. It is a single-end tool, so once the cutting end is worn it is replaced rather than flipped. Typical applications include roughing pockets, slots, and profiles in ferrous workpieces before a finish pass with a standard end mill.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill for standard 3/4-inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and milling machine spindles accepting 3/4-inch shank tooling.
Installation is performed by machinists using a standard end mill holder or collet system rated for 3/4-inch shank tooling. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the tool. Torque the set screw or collet nut to the holder manufacturer's specification and verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning the cut. Inspect the cutting edges before each use — TiCN-coated cobalt tools should be removed from service at the first sign of chipping to avoid workpiece damage.
