The HERTEL 87144762 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with titanium carbonitride (TiCN), this tool delivers elevated hardness and heat resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. It features a 1.25-inch mill diameter with six flutes in a coarse pitch configuration, producing a chip-breaking geometry that reduces cutting forces and heat buildup during heavy roughing passes. Overall length is 5.5 inches with a 3-inch length of cut. The right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional CNC and manual milling setups.
This roughing end mill is suited for milling operations on steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, and similar hard materials where rapid stock removal is the primary objective. It is used in job shops, tool rooms, and production machining environments on vertical and horizontal milling machines and CNC machining centers. The 1.25-inch shank diameter matches directly to standard ER or end mill holders of the corresponding bore size. It is not center-cutting, so it is not intended for plunge entry into solid material without a pre-drilled pilot hole or ramping entry.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard end mill holders or collet chucks with a 1.25-inch bore, compatible with CNC machining centers and manual knee mills configured for right-hand rotation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Secure the shank to the full recommended engagement depth in the holder to minimize runout and prevent pull-out under cutting loads. Verify spindle rotation direction matches the right-hand cutting designation before starting a cut.
