The HERTEL 87144531 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive stock removal in ferrous and hard materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this cutter carries a TiCN coating that improves surface hardness and heat resistance during high-feed milling operations. The 1.25-inch diameter with 6 fine-pitch flutes produces a controlled chip load that reduces chatter and extends tool life in interrupted cuts. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this style of rougher when rapid material removal with a quality pre-finish surface is the priority before a finishing pass.
This roughing end mill is suited for milling operations on machining centers and manual knee mills where heavy roughing passes in steel, stainless, and similar alloys are required. The 2-inch length of cut accommodates moderate-depth slotting and peripheral milling. The 1.25-inch straight shank fits standard end mill holders and collet chucks designed for that bore diameter. It is configured as a single-end tool, meaning the cutter geometry is on one end only. Regular-length geometry makes it appropriate for general-purpose shop applications without the deflection concerns associated with extended-reach tooling.
Designed for use in standard end mill holders and collet chucks with a 1.25-inch bore. Compatible with machining centers and manual mills running right-hand spindle rotation. Verify holder runout and retention specifications before mounting.
This tool is installed by a machinist or tool-and-die technician. Always power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended engagement depth per the holder manufacturer before tightening set screws or collet nuts. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for chips or wear before each setup and do not use a damaged cutter.
