The HERTEL 87144523 is a single-end roughing end mill engineered for aggressive material removal in ferrous and high-temp alloy machining. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, it delivers extended tool life in demanding cutting environments. The 1.25-inch diameter, 6-flute coarse-pitch design breaks chips efficiently and reduces chatter during heavy cuts. With a 3-inch length of cut and 5.5-inch overall length, this end mill suits deep-pocket and side-milling operations on standard vertical and horizontal machining centers. Machinists and toolroom technicians working in production or maintenance environments are the primary users.
This end mill is suited for roughing passes on steel, stainless, cast iron, and other hard materials where a standard HSS tool would wear prematurely. The coarse pitch geometry and right-hand cutting and flute direction make it a reliable choice for CNC milling operations requiring consistent chip evacuation and stable tool engagement. The center-cutting capability allows plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole, adding flexibility during setup. Its regular-length classification makes it compatible with standard end mill holders and collet chucks commonly found in production shops.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit roughing end mill for standard 1-1/4 inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and Weldon-style holders used in vertical and horizontal CNC and manual milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle is fully powered down and the machine is in a safe state before changing tooling. Secure the shank fully within the holder to the manufacturer-recommended gauge line depth and verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting. Follow the machine tool builder and shop safety guidelines for speeds, feeds, and coolant application when setting up a new tool.
