The HERTEL 87144440 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a TiCN coating, it delivers heat resistance and wear performance suited to interrupted cuts and high-feed roughing passes. The cutter measures 1 inch in diameter with a 4-inch length of cut and a 6-1/2-inch overall length, making it appropriate for deeper pocketing and slotting operations. Five coarse-pitch flutes provide chip clearance while maintaining cutting stability. Licensed machinists and CNC operators use this tool in production and job-shop environments where steel, stainless, and other ferrous workpieces require consistent stock removal before finishing passes.
This roughing end mill is suited for use in vertical machining centers, knee mills, and manual milling machines where a 1-inch straight shank can be held in a standard end mill holder or collet chuck. Its right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional and climb milling on CNC and manual setups. The coarse pitch geometry breaks chips aggressively, reducing cutting forces on the spindle and workpiece fixture. It is a center-cutting tool, allowing plunge entry when the application requires it. Typical applications include roughing cavities, slots, and contours in ferrous and hard materials prior to finish milling.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill for 1-inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and milling arbors accepting a 1-inch straight shank in standard vertical and horizontal milling setups.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Spindle power must be off and the machine must be in a locked-out, zero-energy state before changing tooling. Secure the shank fully within the holder to the manufacturer-specified engagement depth and torque the retention fastener per the holder specification. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for chips or wear before each setup.
