The HERTEL 87012 is a 5/8-11 UNC hand pulley tap designed for threading applications that require precise control and manual operation. Built from high-speed steel with a bright finish, this tap produces clean internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The plug chamfer provides a gradual thread lead-in, making it well-suited for through-hole tapping where the tap can pass completely through the workpiece. With 4 right-hand flutes and an H3 thread limit, it delivers controlled tolerances consistent with standard UNC fastener fitment requirements. Overall length is 8 inches. This tool is intended for use by machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians working on manual tapping operations or moderately controlled power-assist setups.
The HERTEL 87012 is applied in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments where 5/8-11 UNC internal threads are required. Pulley taps are specifically designed with extended reach for tapping deep in a bore or through a hub, such as a pulley or sheave. The 8-inch overall length provides clearance that standard-length taps cannot achieve in these applications. This tap is appropriate for use in steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials where high-speed steel tooling is sufficient.
Designed for use in any application requiring a 5/8-11 UNC internal thread where extended reach is necessary, including pulley hubs, sheaves, and deep-bore components. Compatible with standard tap handles and tapping heads sized for 5/8-inch shank tooling.
This tap is intended for use by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and ensure the tap is properly aligned to avoid thread misalignment or tap breakage. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped to reduce heat and extend tool life. For manual operation, use a tap wrench sized for this shank diameter and apply consistent, even pressure with periodic back-turning to break chips.
