The HERTEL 85707412 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose metal drilling applications. Built from high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit runs at higher surface speeds and resists wear longer than uncoated HSS tooling. The wire-gauge size 19 corresponds to a decimal diameter of 0.1660 inches, making it a common choice for clearance holes, pilot holes, and pre-tap operations. Overall length is 3.25 inches with a 2.125-inch flute length. The standard 118-degree split-point geometry with web thinning reduces thrust and centers the bit without a pilot. HVAC, plumbing, and electrical tradespeople keep this size on hand for sheet metal, conduit work, and bracket fabrication.
This drill bit is suited for use in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and light alloys encountered in field and shop work. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard three-jaw chucks on corded drills, drill presses, and right-angle drill drivers. The 0.1660-inch shank diameter matches the cutting diameter, so no reduction sleeve is required. Typical applications include drilling holes for 10-32 or 10-24 machine screws, sheet-metal fastener clearance, and panel knockouts in light-gauge steel. The TiN coating provides visible wear indication as the gold finish recedes at the cutting edge.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or stock drill bit for use in any standard three-jaw chuck accepting a 0.1660-inch straight-cylindrical shank, including corded and cordless drills and benchtop drill presses.
Install in a properly tightened three-jaw chuck before applying power. Secure the workpiece with a clamp or vise — never hand-hold small stock during drilling. Use cutting fluid or a light machine oil when drilling hard ferrous materials to preserve the TiN coating and extend edge life. Inspect the cutting edge before each use; a visibly worn or chipped edge should be replaced or resharpened by a qualified tool grinder.
