The HERTEL 84581057 is a No. 31 wire-size jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose holemaking in metal, plastic, and similar materials. Manufactured from high speed steel with an oxide coating, the bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and requires no center punch on most workpiece materials. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.1200 inches in diameter and seats securely in standard drill chucks. With an overall length of 2.75 inches and a flute length of 1.625 inches, this bit fits the standard jobber-series geometry machinists and maintenance technicians reach for on everyday through-hole and clearance-hole operations.
This drill bit is suited for light- to medium-duty holemaking tasks in fabrication shops, maintenance facilities, and field service applications. The No. 31 wire gauge size (0.1200 inches decimal) is commonly used when drilling pilot holes, tap-clearance holes, and precision holes in sheet metal, structural steel, aluminum, and engineered plastics. Right-hand cutting direction and a regular spiral flute type make it compatible with standard handheld and bench-mounted drill equipment. The heavy-duty grade designation and NAS specification indicate it is built to tighter tolerances than general-purpose import tooling.
Designed as a standard jobber-series replacement drill bit fitting any drill chuck that accepts a 0.1200-inch straight-cylindrical shank; suitable for use in handheld drills, drill presses, and CNC drilling equipment.
Install and remove drill bits only with the drill or drill press fully powered off and the chuck key removed from the chuck. Secure the workpiece before drilling to prevent rotation. Appropriate cutting fluid or coolant is recommended when drilling ferrous metals to extend tool life, though this bit does not support through-coolant delivery. Eye protection and compliance with applicable shop-safety standards are required when operating rotary cutting tools.
