The HERTEL 84581008 is a high speed steel jobber-length drill bit sized to wire gauge number 26, with a decimal diameter of 0.1470 inches. It features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry and requires no center punch on most materials. The flute is spiral-cut in a regular helix with web thinning applied at the tip to lower thrust and improve chip evacuation. At 3 inches overall length with a 1-7/8-inch flute length and a straight-cylindrical shank of 0.1470 inches, this bit fits standard three-jaw drill chucks. The oxide coating provides a baseline level of lubricity and corrosion resistance. Right-hand cutting direction, two flutes, tapered web configuration. Rated heavy duty and built to NAS specification.
This drill bit is suited for general holemaking operations in metal, sheet goods, and similar materials encountered in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical trade work. Typical applications include drilling pilot holes, screw clearance holes, and fastener holes in light-gauge steel, aluminum, brass, and similar metals. The jobber-length format balances reach and rigidity for hand-held drill motors and bench drill presses alike. The 0.1470-inch diameter corresponds to wire gauge 26, which is commonly referenced when matching clearance fits for small-diameter fasteners or instrument tubing pass-throughs.
Designed as a standard jobber-length drill bit for use in any three-jaw chuck capable of accepting a 0.1470-inch straight-cylindrical shank, including hand-held drill motors, drill presses, and similar holemaking equipment.
This bit is installed and removed by a licensed or qualified tradesperson using a standard drill chuck key or keyless chuck mechanism. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and confirm the bit runs true before cutting. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or dulling is present, as a damaged point increases the risk of bit breakage.
