The HERTEL 84579770 is a high speed steel (HSS) jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose holemaking in metal, wood, and similar materials. It carries a titanium nitride (TiN) coating that reduces friction and extends cutting life compared to uncoated HSS tooling. The 135-degree split point geometry starts on contact without center-punching and reduces walking on smooth or curved surfaces. At 4.75 inches overall length with a 3.4375-inch flute, this is a standard jobber proportion suited to handheld drills, drill presses, and CNC setups. Two right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations. It is classified as heavy duty grade and meets NAS specification requirements.
This drill bit is intended for production and maintenance applications where consistent hole quality and tool life matter. Typical users include machinists, millwrights, HVAC fabricators, plumbers, and electricians drilling clearance holes or pilot holes in steel, aluminum, and cast iron. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard three-jaw chucks across all common drill configurations. The 11/32-inch diameter falls in the 0.3000 to 0.3500 decimal inch size range and is commonly used for bolt clearance, tap drilling, and sheet metal work.
Designed as a standard jobber-length drill bit with an 11/32-inch straight-cylindrical shank, compatible with any hand drill, drill press, or CNC spindle equipped with a chuck accepting that shank diameter.
Use in a properly tightened 3-jaw chuck and verify the bit runs true before starting the cut. Apply cutting fluid or coolant when drilling ferrous metals to preserve coating life and edge geometry. Disconnect power to any machine tool before installing or removing the bit. Dispose of worn tooling properly — a dull TiN-coated bit should be replaced rather than reground, as regrinding removes the coating from the cutting edges.
