The HERTEL 84579713 is a Letter E jobber-length drill bit sized at 0.2500 inches (1/4 inch) in diameter, designed for general-purpose holemaking in metal, wood, and composite materials. Built from heavy-duty high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it offers improved surface hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated HSS tooling. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and requires less thrust to start the hole. With a 4-inch overall length and 2-3/4-inch flute length, this is a standard jobber-series geometry suited for use in hand drills, drill presses, and CNC applications. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and metal fabricators are the primary users.
This drill bit is intended for right-hand rotation cutting in a wide range of materials including mild steel, aluminum, plastics, and similar workpiece materials common in industrial and maintenance applications. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard 3-jaw chucks and collet systems that accept 1/4-inch shanks. The regular spiral flute geometry promotes chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant or cutting fluid application is recommended for extended runs in ferrous materials.
Designed as a standard jobber-series drill bit for use in any right-hand drill press, hand drill, or CNC machine tool with a chuck or collet accepting a 1/4-inch straight shank. Conforms to NAS specification designation.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before beginning operation and verify concentricity to minimize runout. Always power down the machine and bring the spindle to a complete stop before changing tooling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling ferrous metals to manage heat and extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point geometry is compromised.
