The HERTEL 84578137 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and plastic. It is manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish and measures 1-5/8 inches overall length. The bit carries a 118-degree standard point angle with a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces thrust at entry and improves chip clearing. The spiral flute design and right-hand cut make it compatible with standard drill presses, hand drills, and machining center setups. Metalworking shops, maintenance technicians, and fabricators routinely stock wire gauge bits in this size range for close-tolerance hole work.
This bit is sized to wire gauge number 58, equivalent to 0.0420 inches decimal diameter. It is suited for light-duty applications requiring small-diameter holes where precision fit matters, such as pilot holes, instrument panel work, printed circuit board fixturing, and sheet metal fabrication. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks and collets. The regular spiral type and two-flute geometry provide efficient chip evacuation in shallow-to-moderate depth holes.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit suitable for standard drill chucks and collets accepting a 0.0420-inch straight-cylindrical shank across drill presses, hand drills, and CNC machining setups.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by qualified machinists or technicians familiar with small-diameter tooling. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits, as small-diameter bits are susceptible to deflection and breakage under side load. Power down and de-energize all equipment before changing tooling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or dry cutting technique per the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain hole quality.
