The HERTEL 84578004 is a jobber-length drill bit sized to letter P (0.3230 inches decimal equivalent), designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and plastics. Built from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it features a standard 118-degree point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces thrust and improves chip clearance on entry. The two-flute, regular spiral design promotes efficient chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations. At 4-5/8 inches overall length with a 3-5/16 inch flute length, this bit fits standard drill chucks and drill presses used daily in production and maintenance environments.
This drill bit is suited for general-purpose production drilling, machine shop work, maintenance and repair operations, and light fabrication tasks. The straight cylindrical shank makes it compatible with keyed and keyless chucks across a wide range of bench drills, drill presses, and handheld power drills. It is appropriate for right-hand cutting operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials within the 0.3000 to 0.3500 inch drill size range. No coolant-through capability is present, so flood or mist cooling applied externally is the preferred method when drilling harder stock at extended run times.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with any drill press, CNC drill head, or handheld power drill equipped with a chuck sized to accept a 0.3230-inch straight cylindrical shank.
Installation and use should be performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, or qualified tradespeople familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and tighten all jaws evenly before operating. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and remove the bit from service if chips, cracks, or excessive wear are present. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or external coolant when drilling harder ferrous materials to extend edge life and prevent work hardening.
