The HERTEL 84512102 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for high-material-removal-rate milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating, it delivers increased hardness and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The 7/16 inch (0.4375 inch) cutting diameter pairs with a 1/2 inch shank, making it compatible with standard ER and straight-shank toolholders. The fine-pitch, 4-flute geometry breaks chips aggressively, reducing cutting forces and heat buildup during roughing passes. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill is suited for roughing applications in manual and CNC milling machines where rapid stock removal is the priority before a finishing pass. The 1-1/4 inch length of cut (1.2500 inches) and 3-1/4 inch overall length make it appropriate for moderate-depth pockets, slots, and peripheral cuts in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional and climb milling setups.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard milling machine spindles accepting a 1/2 inch straight shank; no specific model compatibility data was provided by the manufacturer for this SKU.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Secure the shank fully into the toolholder collet or end mill holder and torque the drawbar or clamping nut per the machine manufacturer's specification before engaging the spindle. Verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for cobalt HSS tooling and the workpiece material before cutting. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or wear before each use and replace the tool if the TiN coating shows significant breakdown at the flute edges.
