The HERTEL 84511997 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this tool handles harder workpiece materials that standard HSS tooling cannot manage efficiently. The 1/4 inch diameter cutter features 3 flutes in a right-hand cutting and right-hand flute configuration, with a 5/8 inch length of cut and a 2-7/16 inch overall length. The bright, uncoated finish leaves the cobalt material fully exposed for applications where coating is unnecessary or undesirable. This end mill is sized for light-duty work, detail passes, and slotting in machine shop and toolroom environments.
This roughing end mill is suited for use in vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC milling machines where high-feed roughing passes are required. The 3/8 inch shank diameter fits standard ER collets and end mill holders commonly found in production and toolroom setups. The roughing geometry is intended for roughing and semi-finishing passes on steel, stainless, and other ferrous materials. It is not center-cutting, so it is not designed for plunge operations. Machinists, tool grinders, and CNC operators in manufacturing and job shop environments are the typical users.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit roughing end mill for use in standard 3/8 inch end mill holders and ER collet chucks on vertical mills and CNC machining centers.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC operators following standard tooling changeout procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the 3/8 inch shank fully into the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism per the holder manufacturer's specifications. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut to avoid premature tool wear.
