The HERTEL 84511914 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous metalworking applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with titanium carbonitride (TiCN), it delivers elevated hardness and heat resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The cutter measures 1.25 inches in diameter with a 1.25-inch shank, 3-inch length of cut, and 5.5-inch overall length. Six flutes generate the characteristic roughing chip-load pattern that reduces cutting forces while maximizing stock removal per pass. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard. This tool is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians on vertical and horizontal milling machines and machining centers.
This roughing end mill suits production and job-shop environments where rapid material removal from steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, and similar materials is required before a finishing pass. The 6-flute geometry and TiCN coating allow higher feed rates and longer tool life compared to uncoated alternatives. The 1.25-inch shank fits standard ER or side-lock milling chucks and collet systems of the same bore. It is not center-cutting, so it should not be used for direct plunge operations. Applications include roughing slots, peripheral cuts, and profiling on CNC and manual knee mills.

Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully in a properly sized collet, end mill holder, or side-lock chuck and torque the retention fasteners per the tool-holder manufacturer specification. Because this end mill is not center-cutting, avoid direct axial plunge entries — use a ramping or helical interpolation entry path instead.
