The HERTEL 84511542 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in ferrous and high-temperature alloy applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this tool handles tough workpiece materials where standard HSS cutters fall short. It features a 1 inch cutting diameter, 5 flutes, and a 3 inch length of cut, making it well suited for deep-pocket roughing passes. At 5.5 inches overall length with a 1 inch shank diameter, it fits standard CAT, BT, and straight-shank toolholders commonly found in CNC machining centers and manual mills. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional milling setups.
This end mill is used in machine shops, tool rooms, and production environments where high material removal rate is the priority over surface finish. It is not center-cutting, so it requires a pre-drilled or pre-bored entry point before plunge operations. The TiCN coating adds surface hardness and reduces built-up edge on materials such as alloy steels, tool steels, and stainless. M42 cobalt construction gives it elevated heat resistance compared to standard M2 HSS, extending tool life in demanding cutting conditions.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit tool for standard 1 inch straight-shank toolholders used in CNC machining centers, knee mills, and manual milling machines accepting 1 inch shank end mills.
Installation of this end mill should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Secure the shank fully within the collet or end mill holder to the recommended engagement depth before tightening. Confirm spindle speed and feed rate are set per the material being cut before engaging the workpiece. This tool is not center-cutting and must not be used for direct plunge entry without a pre-existing pilot hole or bore.
