The HERTEL 84511476 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a TiAlN coating, this tool handles elevated cutting temperatures and extends tool life in demanding milling operations. The coarse pitch flute geometry breaks chips into smaller segments, reducing cutting forces and allowing higher feed rates compared to standard finishing end mills. At 0.5 inches in diameter with a 0.5-inch length of cut and 2.5-inch overall length, this end mill fits standard milling chucks and collets used in vertical and horizontal machining centers. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and CNC operators are the primary users.
This roughing end mill is suited for roughing passes in milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials where rapid stock removal is the priority. The right-hand cutting direction and right-hand flute spiral are standard configurations for conventional and climb milling on CNC mills and manual knee mills. The centercutting design allows plunge milling entries, which adds flexibility during tool path planning. Applications include roughing pockets, slots, and profiling operations where surface finish is secondary to material removal rate.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-application roughing end mill for use in standard 1/2-inch collets, end mill holders, and Weldon-style side-lock holders on vertical milling machines and CNC machining centers.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. Use a calibrated torque wrench and the correct collet or holder to seat the shank to the specified projection length for the operation. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for chips or wear before each use. Secure workholding is critical when running coarse-pitch roughing end mills at elevated feed rates to prevent chatter and tool deflection.
