The HERTEL 84214006 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN), this tool handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous metals with increased heat and wear resistance. The 1.25-inch diameter body carries 6 flutes configured for right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction, delivering the chip-breaking performance that characterizes roughing geometry. With a 4-inch length of cut and 6.5-inch overall length, it suits deep-reach roughing passes on vertical mills, knee mills, and machining centers. Installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals, this end mill is the starting point before finishing passes are applied.
This end mill is suited for roughing applications in job shops, production machining environments, and maintenance machining operations. The 1-1/4-inch shank diameter matches the 1-1/4-inch mill diameter, making it straightforward to chuck in standard collet holders, end mill holders, or Weldon-style tool holders. The non-centercutting geometry means it is intended for side milling, peripheral cuts, and plunge operations where a pilot hole or ramping entry is used rather than direct plunge. It performs well on carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, and similar materials where a roughing pass is needed before a finish tool follows.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard 1-1/4-inch end mill holders, collet chucks, or Weldon shank tool holders on vertical mills, knee mills, and CNC machining centers.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with speeds, feeds, and toolholder torque requirements for cobalt end mills. Always power down and lock out the spindle before seating or removing the end mill from its holder. Confirm shank engagement depth meets toolholder manufacturer minimums before initiating a cut. Because this tool is non-centercutting, use a pre-drilled hole or a ramping or helical interpolation entry path — do not plunge directly into solid stock.
