The HERTEL 84213958 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN), it delivers hardness and wear resistance suited for ferrous metals and tough alloys. The cutter measures 5/8 inch (0.6250 inch) in diameter with a matching 5/8 inch shank, a 2.5-inch length of cut, and a 4.625-inch overall length. The fine-pitch, 4-flute geometry produces a controlled chip load for smooth stock removal. Cutting direction and flute direction are both right-hand. This tool is installed and used by machinists and tooling technicians in job shop and production environments.
This roughing end mill is intended for use in vertical milling machines, knee mills, and CNC machining centers where rapid material removal is the primary objective. The fine pitch configuration reduces chatter and vibration during heavy cuts, making it well suited for profiling, slotting, and side milling passes on steel, alloy steel, and similar ferrous workpiece materials. It is a single-end, non-centercutting design, meaning it is not intended for plunge cutting and should be entered into the workpiece from the side or via a ramp entry. No extended reach or variable helix geometry is present.
Designed as a standard-shank roughing end mill for use with 5/8 inch end mill holders, collet chucks, or Weldon-style holders in vertical mills and CNC machining centers.
Installation and tool changes should be performed only after the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, powered-down state. Secure the shank fully within the holder to the minimum insertion depth recommended by the holder manufacturer. Because this is a non-centercutting tool, avoid direct plunge entry into solid material. Tooling selection and feeds and speeds should comply with the machine manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures.
