The HERTEL 84024108 is a short-series threaded shank drill bit designed for drilling into high-tensile strength metals. It carries a 3/16 inch cutting diameter, a 135-degree split point for self-centering entry, and a cobalt construction with an oxide coating that resists heat and wear at elevated cutting speeds. The 1/4-28 threaded shank provides positive retention in compatible quick-change and threaded chuck systems, reducing slippage under load. With an overall length of 1.25 inches and a flute length of 9/16 inch, this bit is built for close-quarters and blind-hole applications where a standard-length bit will not fit. Right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips cleanly during the cut.
This bit is suited for use on ferrous metals, stainless steel, hardened alloys, and other high-tensile materials commonly encountered in aerospace, structural, and heavy mechanical fabrication work. The short overall length and threaded 1/4-28 shank make it a practical choice for pneumatic and electric drill motors equipped with threaded shank adapters. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust requirements and extends tool life when drilling tough materials. It conforms to NAS 965 Type D specification, making it appropriate for controlled aerospace and defense maintenance environments.
Designed for use with drill motors and chuck adapters accepting a 1/4-28 threaded shank. Intended for general-purpose drilling in high-tensile strength metals per NAS 965 Type D specification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with threaded shank tooling. Verify the drive system accepts a 1/4-28 thread before mounting. Secure the shank fully before applying cutting force, and use cutting fluid appropriate for cobalt tooling when drilling stainless or hardened alloys to manage heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use and replace the bit if chipping or rounding is observed.
