The HERTEL 84023951 is a cobalt stub-length drill bit designed for drilling into high-tensile strength metals. It carries a No. 11 wire gauge size, equal to 0.1910 inches in diameter, and features a 135-degree split point for fast, self-centering starts with reduced walking. The overall length is 0.5625 inches, making it a compact stub-style tool suited for work in tight clearances. The oxide finish adds basic corrosion resistance and helps with chip evacuation. A 1/4-28 threaded shank provides secure engagement in compatible threaded-shank holders. This bit is right-hand cut with a regular spiral flute and a tapered web configuration.
This drill bit is built for use in high-tensile strength metals such as stainless steel, hardened alloys, and other tough ferrous materials where standard high-speed steel bits lose edge quickly. The stub length and threaded shank make it a practical choice for aerospace, maintenance, and production drilling applications where a short, rigid setup is required. The web-thinned point reduces thrust force at entry. It meets NAS 965 Type D specification, which is common in aerospace and precision manufacturing environments. Licensed machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance mechanics are the primary users.
Designed for use with 1/4-28 threaded-shank drill holders compatible with NAS 965 Type D stub drill bits. Intended for right-hand rotation drilling in high-tensile strength metals.
Install this bit into a compatible 1/4-28 threaded-shank holder and verify secure engagement before use. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the machine spindle is properly aligned to prevent bit deflection. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the material being drilled to extend tool life. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment when operating drill presses or hand drilling equipment.
