The HERTEL 84023878 is a threaded shank stub drill bit designed for precision drilling in low-tensile strength materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with an oxide coating, this bit features a 135-degree split point and web-thinned, tapered web construction that reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements at the start of the cut. The 1/4-28 threaded hex shank provides a secure, repeatable connection in compatible quick-change or threaded chuck systems. At 0.625 inches overall length, this stub-length bit delivers added rigidity over standard jobber-length bits, making it well-suited for tight-clearance applications where deflection is a concern.
This drill bit is intended for use in metal fabrication, maintenance, and light industrial applications where a compact, rigid drill profile is required. The stub length and split point geometry make it practical for sheet metal work, fixture assembly, and other tasks involving low-tensile strength metals. Right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling. It conforms to NAS 965 Type B specification, making it appropriate for aerospace-adjacent and precision assembly environments where standardized tooling is required.
Designed for use with threaded quick-change chuck systems accepting a 1/4-28 hex shank. Suitable for drilling low-tensile strength materials in general-purpose applications.
Installation and use should be performed by machinists or qualified trade professionals familiar with rotary cutting tools. Ensure the chuck or quick-change adapter is rated for the 1/4-28 threaded shank before use. Secure the workpiece properly and confirm the drill press or hand tool is powered off before inserting or removing the bit. Do not exceed the drill press or tool manufacturer's recommended speed range for the material and bit diameter being used.
