The HERTEL 83246462 is a solid carbide straight-flute die drill bit designed for precision drilling in hard and abrasion-resistant workpiece materials. Built to C2 carbide grade, it delivers the hardness and heat resistance needed when machining stainless steel, titanium alloy, nickel alloy, chrome alloy, and heat-treated alloy steels. The bit measures 0.1590 inches in diameter, corresponding to a No. 21 wire gauge size, and features a 140-degree notched point with web thinning to reduce thrust and improve centering on entry. A bright finish keeps the surface smooth without adding coating thickness that could affect tolerance. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and precision fabricators are the primary installers of this bit.
This die drill bit is suited for tight-tolerance applications in tool-and-die work, precision machining, mold making, and production drilling of ferrous and non-ferrous hard alloys. Its straight-flute geometry is particularly effective when drilling short-chip materials where standard spiral flutes can cause packing or chatter. The right-hand cutting direction and web-thinned notched point make it appropriate for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes requiring consistent hole geometry in difficult materials.
Designed for use in precision drilling of chrome alloy, heat-treated alloy, nickel alloy, stainless steel, carbon steel, and titanium alloy workpieces. Suitable for CNC and manual drilling setups requiring a No. 21 wire size hole at 0.1590 inches diameter.
This bit should be installed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with carbide tooling handling procedures. Carbide is brittle and susceptible to chipping if dropped or subjected to side-loading during entry; ensure the workpiece and spindle are properly secured before drilling. Cutting fluid or coolant is recommended when drilling stainless or nickel alloys to manage heat buildup, even though this bit does not have through-coolant capability. Inspect the cutting edge for chipping before each use, as a damaged carbide edge can cause workpiece damage or bit breakage.
