The HERTEL 83246256 is a straight-flute drill bit sized to No. 42 wire gauge (0.0935 inches decimal equivalent), designed for precision drilling in hard and demanding workpiece materials. Built from C2-grade solid carbide with a bright/uncoated finish, this bit delivers the rigidity and edge retention needed when working stainless steel, titanium alloy, nickel alloy, and heat-treated alloy stock. The 140-degree notched point geometry reduces entry force and improves centering on hard surfaces. A web-thinned construction further lowers thrust requirements. Right-hand cutting direction. Diameter tolerance is held to +0.0000 to -0.0005 inches, making this suitable for close-tolerance hole applications in toolrooms, maintenance shops, and production environments.
This drill bit is suited for machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals working with ferrous and exotic alloys where high-speed steel tooling loses edge life too quickly. Typical applications include precision hole drilling in stainless steel fastener patterns, nickel alloy component repair, and chrome or heat-treated alloy fabrication. The small wire-gauge diameter makes it particularly useful in tight-clearance or fine-detail work where accurate hole sizing is critical. No coolant-through capability; external coolant or cutting fluid application at the drill point is the standard approach for hard-material drilling at this diameter.
Designed as a standard straight-shank drill bit compatible with any drill chuck or collet system accepting a 0.0935-inch shank diameter. Primary workpiece materials include chrome alloy, heat-treated alloy, nickel alloy, stainless steel, steel, and titanium alloy.
Installation is performed by a machinist or maintenance technician using a drill press, CNC machining center, or hand drill with an appropriate chuck. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout at the tip before drilling into finished workpieces. When drilling hard alloys at this small diameter, apply external cutting fluid at the drill point to manage heat and extend tool life. Avoid excessive feed pressure, which can cause bit deflection or breakage in carbide tooling at small diameters.
