The HERTEL 83246017 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for precision drilling in small-diameter applications. It carries a wire gauge size of 77, corresponding to a decimal diameter of 0.0180 inches, and features a standard 118-degree drill point angle with web thinning for easier penetration. The bright finish leaves the carbide surface uncoated for general-purpose work. At 0.75 inches overall length with a 0.1875-inch flute length, this bit is suited for close-tolerance drilling in hard or abrasive materials where high-speed steel would wear prematurely. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and precision fabricators are the typical end users.
This bit is used in CNC drilling centers, drill presses, and precision hand-held spindle applications where tight diameter tolerances are required. The C2 carbide grade makes it appropriate for cast iron, hardened steel, composites, and other abrasive workpiece materials. Its straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard collets and chucks compatible with 0.0180-inch shank diameters. The regular spiral flute geometry promotes chip evacuation in short-depth holes typical of its flute length. It is sold individually and is well suited to production environments that require consistent, repeatable small-hole geometry.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit for use in any spindle, collet, or drill chuck accepting a 0.0180-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
This bit should be installed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Ensure the spindle and chuck are clean and concentric before seating the shank, as runout is especially damaging to carbide at this diameter. Carbide is brittle — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without appropriate feed reduction, or using the bit as a reamer. Follow machine manufacturer feed and speed recommendations for carbide tooling at this diameter range.
