The HERTEL 83245969 is a jobber-length drill bit sized to letter Y (0.4040 inches), ground from solid carbide for cutting hard and abrasive materials where high-speed steel tooling falls short. It features a 118-degree standard point angle, a web-thinned and tapered web configuration for reduced thrust at drill entry, and a bright (uncoated) finish suited for general-purpose drilling applications. Overall length is 4.5 inches with a 2.875-inch spiral flute length. The straight-cylindrical shank mounts directly in standard drill chucks or collets without adapters. This bit is intended for machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and production drilling operations.
This drill bit is rated for general-purpose use across a range of materials where solid carbide tooling is specified. The right-hand spiral flute with regular helix promotes chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations. With a diameter tolerance of -0.0005 to 0.0000 inches, it holds close tolerances suitable for precision work. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant or dry cutting must be used depending on the workpiece material and feed rate. Material grade is C2 carbide.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held drilling equipment equipped with a chuck or collet accepting a 0.4040-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Fits the 0.4000 to 0.5000 inch drill bit size range category.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and verify runout before beginning a cut. No coolant-through path is present — apply external cutting fluid or use dry cutting parameters appropriate for the workpiece material. Inspect the cutting edges and web for wear or chipping before each use, as solid carbide is brittle and sensitive to side loading or impact.
